Some words need to go in for a regular tune-up. .. otherwise they end up not working the way that they are supposed to work. One of these words is the word HOPE.
Dr Logos: How are you feeling.
Hope: Sluggish, Tired and achy. What do you think it is Doc?
Dr. Not sure without further testing.
Hope: I just hope this won’t take too long. I’ve got three reports sitting on my desk and I have till Friday to get them done.
Dr: Well I can’t promise you anything. Stick out your tongue.
OK now breathe deeply.
Hope: (coughs) Wow, I haven’t done that in a while.
Dr: Do you get out much?
Hope: Hardly ever….
Hope is a filter
I was doing my morning run along the boardwalk in Avon, when this idea came across my mind: Hope is a filter. We all have filters. Filters are like a wardrobe: each day we walk to the closet and decide what (filter) we are in the mood to wear. Like all filters, they have a style and a look. Look at the comic filter today: Bob Hope couldn’t buy a bag of peanuts with his style. Today everything is sardonic, sarcastic and ironic, with a touch of distain.
When I thought about the word Hope, a couple things stuck out to me, the middle two letters carry a lot of insight for those willing to stretch the imagination.
OP – stands for Open. The kind of attitude that attracts what you need when you need it .
OP – stands for Opportunity. The kind of expectation that we need to be ready to field like a ground ball streaking past the pitcher’s mound.
OP – stand for Opinion. Since we all have one, making sure that it stays silent until its parent, truth come along to claim it. Otherwise, opinions have a way of running your life out of control.
OP stands for Optical. This stands for the way that you see things.
All these things need to be operating in order for Hope to do its job.
So ask yourself: Am I hopeful?
Dr Logos would say: You are said to be hopeful, if you are open and expecting to see opportunity behind the shadow of opinion.
