I saw today in the paper, that Tony Dungy retired. He is going to do some work with prison ministry. In the story in the New York Times, the Colt's president, Bill Polian recapped Dungy's time with the team by saying:
“What a joy it was to come to work with Tony Dungy every day,” Polian said. “What a privilege it was to work with a man who talked the talk, albeit softly, but who also walked the walk, emphatically. What an honor it was to reach the ultimate goal with a man who did it the right way. Tony said his only regret was we didn’t win more world championships. But Tony, you’re wrong. We were winners every day we worked with you. I wouldn’t trade that time for all the trophies in the world.”
Imagine that: as you leave the team, winning only one Super Bowl, (kidding), and the team owners say that as a result of playing with Dungy, they were winners every day.
There are some trophies that we win by what we do on the field; but the most important trophies are those won off the field by the people we work with everyday. Well done Coach Dungy, well done.
