IQ, strength, physical attractiveness, hearing, speed, quick thinking, height… all these things are elements that we have little or no control over. There will always be someone smarter, faster and taller than you… Facts of Life. But there is one thing, at least one thing that you have some control over. It’s your attitude. You are not born with an attitude, you decide on your attitude. You attitude determines many times how you perform, what you do, how far you will go with the skills, talent and God-given abilities that you have. But Attitude is the thing that you and no one else controls.
Attitude can actually be a great tool of evangelism. I saw this first hand working on the floor of the NYSE. I worked for the number 1 specialist on the floor of the exchange. We had a great team of people. Very talented, and very gifted. And then there was me. I worked hard, but by no means would ever make broker on the floor. I just didn’t the number acuity. So I could have fought the facts but I chose to use what I did have. I chose myself to be the one who got the computer paper for the trading machines every day. It was the job that the low man on the totem poll did. I also used another skill that God gave me – creativity. There were two files in which we put the buy orders and the sell orders that came in. Not too often but enough, someone would enter a buy as a sell, or misfile the order, and it would cost some money. I began creating color coated files Green for Buy and Red for Sell. It was part of a system. The firm loved the idea, and soon every firm on the floor adopted the color system. I did whatever I could to make the system work better, and as a result, people saw that one of the reason for my attitude was my relationship with Jesus.
