Anointing Killers

Over snacks with friends—one of our friends asked “What is the anointing? I stopped for a moment and then I found this definition coming out of me. The anointing (God’s anointing) is the final reality-it is true in word, in power, in purpose, When Jesus healed someone, He told them the Kingdom of God had come unto them. Healing was the evidence of the final reality.

Jesus is called the way, the truth and the life. Each of these is a dimension of the final reality, the final way, the final truth, the ultimate life.

There are anti-anointings as well. An-anti-anointing is one that challenges, blocks, or mimics the authentic anointing and its function. (Remember that Jesus is the Christ- then there is the anti Christ)

What does the anti anointing look like?
1. Fear is an anti-anointing (fear of God liberates, and purifies. Where there is no fear of God it will be replaced with: fear of man, fear of failure, fear of the unknown.)
2. Familiarity - this is when we place false expectations onto the landscape of our lives, forcing out anything new. Familiarity takes place when you can’t separate people from what God is doing through them. You find yourself making judgments, dismissing the chance that God might STILL use them. Signs of this are suspicion, competition, comparison, and gossip.
3. Foolishness - is the by-product of self-reliance, self promotion, pride, and presumption. It’s all part of the same package. All foolishness has pride or self at it’s root and self on the alter of life.
4. Unforgiveness – blocks the anointing. Truly, if you hold any unforgiveness it will open you up to two major anti-anointings: it will make your prayers ‘flat,’ like driving a car with four flats. You can drive your car with flat tires, but you won’t get to where you want on time. The second anti-anointing that you open yourself up to is deception. Why? Because if you chose to ignore or deny God’s command to love and forgive others, you are withstanding the spirit of Truth; and when that occurs, you are more vulnerable and susceptible to a spirit of deception. Unforgiveness will block your relationships (especially if you are looking for a partner in life or in business), block promotions, block favor, block your peace (anxiety, fear and sleeplessness will harass you), it will stop your joy, blind your hope, and sap you power.

All unforgiveness is the by-product of hidden idolatry. We don’t forgive people because we believe that 1. They are unforgivable, and 2. They are even greater than God, who is willing to forgive. Each act of forgiveness actually acts as a form of worship toward God, declaring in action that God is sovereign and what he has determined will come to pass. Forgiveness is actually a form of godliness, since our Father has forgiven us.

BOLD meets every Tuesday @ 12:45pm in St. Barts Small Chapel.
