In Arizona, Kurt Warner is looking like a miracle worker

The above is a recent headline about Kurt Warner's most recent game. I am nominating Kurt Warner as the BOLD Believer of the Month.

I don’t know about you, but I learn best from other people: other people’s successes and other people’s failures. One of those other people is Kurt Warner. At 37 years old, Kurt Warner is teaching me a lot.

Most players in the NFL start their career in their early 20's (21-24) and the average career length for an NFL player is only 3.5 years. So most players are going to be retired by age 30. The actual average age is 26.68. So imagine: a senior citizen making his third comeback? He may not be the original Pop Warner, but ol’ Kurt Warner, the QB for the Arizona Cardinals, just completed 32 of 44 passes for 395 yards Sunday, which just so happened to be his franchise-record fourth straight 300+ yard game.

The Arizona Cardinals left the field with an impressive 7-3 record, and for the first time since 1977 – with the real hope of clinching its first division title since 1975.

I am not sure how many people know that Kurt Warner (and his wife) are great people of faith. Kurt knows just what it is like to have a hope and dream seem years away and then suddenly become a reality. So the next time you look at Kurt Warner, just don’t look at the chain links, or the score. Look at Kurt’s life and how his life demonstrates faith. Look at how many scriptures apply to his life:

Proverbs 18:16 A man's gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men. He was originally signed by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 1994.

Matthew 5:16 "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Warner is best known for his highly successful stint with the St. Louis Rams from 1998-2003, where he won two NFL MVP awards in 1999 and 2001, as well as the Super Bowl MVP award in Super Bowl XXXIV.

James 2:20 Faith without works is dead. Warner knows what it means to work. Behind Steve Young, Warner is ranked second all-time in career passing rating with a 94.5. He also holds the distinction of being the most statistically accurate quarterback in NFL history, with a career completion percentage of 65.7%

Proverbs 24:16 “For a just [man] falls seven times, and rises up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” He got a job working the night shift at a local Hy-Vee grocery store in addition to assistant-coaching at Northern Iowa.

Maybe when the season ends we can invite Kurt to our BOLD Meeting?

BOLD invites you to join us every Tuesday afternoon 12:45 to 1:15 at St.Barts (50th & Park) as God meets us through prayer and fellowship. BOLD Ministry is a New York City Marketplace Ministry outreach to the business community from Wall Street to Park Avenue.
