Isa 30:21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This [is] the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
I was putting away some of the books I had, and ran across The Purpose Driven Life. For some reason, I cracked it open, and came across a page or two that seemed to be more than relevant to me. I then scanned the index and came across these headings:
Created to Become Like Christ; How We Grow; Transformed by Truth; Transformed by Trouble; Growing through Temptation; Defeating Temptation; It Takes Time
When I told Carol that I thought that the Lord was leading me to do the 40 Days of Purpose, she initially was surprised, but then said, that book is always good to reread.
I think that by going through this book, is like doing a defrag on my laptop. I have to do it regularly in order to keep my machine operating at its maximum performance.
We live in a knowledge economy, and we are demanded to absorbed so much information and data that I think it is really a spiritual mandate to stop for a period of time and do some necessary repairs.
I planted my tomato plants this past week in preparation for the summer. I plant them in anticipation of eating them in July and August. Planting isn't enough; there is watering and weeding and fertilizing, but one thing I know, come July both tomatoes and the season will be right and I will be happy that I invested the time and energy in my garden.
We sometimes look to a good book, sermon or podcast to get our spiritual juices going, but I think the way that the Lord intended is for us to be spiritual farmers, working the soil of our souls, planting for the coming season, and expecting the harvest. Look at what Proverbs 6 says about spiritual planting.
Go to the ant, O sluggard, Observe her ways and be wise, Which, having no chief, Officer or ruler, Prepares her food in the summer {And} gathers her provision in the harvest. How long will you lie down, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?
"A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest"-- Your poverty will come in like a vagabond And your need like an armed man. Proverbs 6:6-11
Spiritual poverty is actually the result of a failure to plant, cultivate and reap.
If you would like to join me, I would welcome the company in this Spring season of planting, and doing the 40 Days of Purpose.
I am totally amazed at the timing of this: It just so happens that starting today and for the next 40 Days will leave us on June 21, the first day of Summer. It's moments like this that I am truly encouraged to know that I do hear the voice of the Lord, and that it is His word that lights the path of my life.
God bless you and I am looking forward to our Summer Harvest.
