Prayer is a dialogue with God through the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus. It involves speaking with and to God, listening, and entering into His presence. Prayer is intended to be interactive, informative and encouraging. It is also intended to provide us with a renewal of heart, mind, will, emotions and Godly perspective.
Prayer may take several forms such as:
"Traditional" Worship
Prayer may take several forms such as:
"Traditional" Worship
Creative non-traditional Worship (guitar or piano playing or singing)
A Cappella song (often attributed to prophetic songs).
An a cappella song often leads others in the prayer group to join in singing. [A cappella music is vocal music or singing without instrumental accompaniment}
Harp & Bowl
A type of prayer worship that parses phrases of scripture into musical and sung verses. The purposes of the Harp and Bowl is to sing the Scripture, allow the Scripture to move deeper into a heart and mind, and to expand upon the meaning and significance of that Scripture, especially reflecting the context and season.
Praying the Scriptures
Praying the Scriptures
This is when an individual takes a portion of scripture and prays it out loud. The significance of praying the Word over a situation is based upon the doctrine of God's sovereignty, that God's word rightly applied is in agreement with God's will. God's kingdom came with Jesus, and Jesus is defined as "The Word." John 1:1 .I.E. "Blessed are those that hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Oh Lord, increase our hunger and thirst for your righteousness and for your kingdom. Satisfy us with good things that our youth may be renewed and our strength born out of your joy, which is our strength."
Intercession
This is praying for a known specific thing in terms of clarity and/or outcome.
Prophetic Intercession
It a topic or theme that may or may not be part of the prayer agenda for the night or something 'Spirit-prompted.' Prophetic Intercession is often spontaneous and may often be accompanied by speaking in tongues. [In the New Testament book of Acts, Jesus' apostles are said to be filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in languages foreign to themselves, but which could be understood by members of the linguistically diverse audience.] If someone prays or speaks in tongues it is usually followed by an interpretation by that person or another.
Teaching
Prayer is also the response to a teaching or scriptural exhortation delivered.
Stillness
Stillness - occurs often within prayer meetings. It may precede or follow another's song or prayer.
Stillness may often provide a place of spiritual punctuation to what has transpired.
Stillness - may also provide added 'space' to consider and retain what is being prayed or said.
Stillness may be requested by a leader in order to hear what the spirit is saying or to allow a moment of reflection following a song, prophetic word or a scripture reading.

Prophetic Words
These are spoken by those within the prayer meeting. They can be spontaneous or even something that they have written down or even something another has written down that is read to be shared and considered. If an individual believes that they have a prophetic word, to be safe, if they are not part of the leadership team, they can have the word screened with one of the leaders by sharing a phrase or some of the message with a leader.
Laying on of Hands
This is done for the purpose of praying for a specific purpose.
For healing.
For deliverance.
For guidance.
In proxy for another.
For commissioning.
For spiritual strength.
For the impartation of some spiritual gift. [Rom 1:11 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;]

Spiritual Warfare
Jesus gave us authority over the demonic realm, and by acts of repentance, petition and intercession, we seek to come into alignment with God's standard and kingdom through the grace of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Where there are places that we believe and discern that God's will and plan is not in operation, believers can use the Word of God, (Scripture) as the basis of their authority and begin to bind, rebuke and cast out entities they believe to be in the demonic realm that are opposing the will of God.
Mat 18:18-19 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
Last words
Unity is not only a signature of the Holy Spirit, but it is the basis upon which God moves into any action. Where there is disunity there is dysfunction, and this is not a fruit of the Holy Spirit.
Fruit
All prayer should possess a fruit-bearing nature. Gal 5:22-3 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Peace
God has called us to walk in peace and to be peacemakers. [Matthew 5] This is part of the role of the believer, which is to embody (incarnate) the character and nature of Jesus, and through prayer be 'brokers' of the peace of God which passes understanding.
